what is reiki?

W H A T  I S  R E I K I ?

Reiki derives from a Japanese technique to help reduce stress and promote relaxation and healing. The word “Reiki” is made of two words – Rei meaning higher power and Ki meaning life force energy thus together Reiki means “spiritually guided life force energy”.

The healing is through a practitioner who either places hands on you (Reiki is a fully clothed treatment FYI) or just above your energy points/ Chakras and you either lay on your back or on your front… whichever way is more comfortable for you. Remember this treatment is about your healing journey.

When we talk about the life force energy we are talking about that energy within our body that flows through us. If this energy is low or stagnate it can lead to blockages that make us ill, feel sick, or stressed and we are unable to perform at optimum levels and be our higher selves.

Each treatment/ session is unique for the person receiving the healing as we all heal differently and have different blockages that affect us differently making the treatment unique and tailored to you. More often than not you will feel completely and utterly relaxed, and other times you may become overwhelmed with emotions or simply nothing at all which doesn’t mean it’s not working just that we receive differently.

Reiki is not just a treatment but takes a holistic approach to living as it looks at healing the body as a whole - the whole mind, body, and spirit that can help our emotions, sense of peace, security, and well-being. It also promotes a way of living that is to live with promoting harmony with others. With this in mind, Mikao Usui created the five principles of Reiki that were inspired by a Japanese Emporer. They help you to bring Reiki energy and a way of being into your daily life…

The 5 reiki principles:

1. Just for today, do not worry

2. Just for today, do not anger

3. Just for today, be humble

4. Just for today, be honest

5. Just for today, be compassionate toward yourself and others

These are beautiful little affirmations and reminders you can come back to throughout your day to help you center and focus on the here and now. If you ever find yourself getting a little overwhelmed or perhaps stuck in your ego, these reminders help to bring you back to your true self and help you reground.

Much love and gratitude,

Assunta x
